Studio Examples
Based on Haitian metal sculptures, this is created by cutting a design out of red poster board then sponging orange and brown acrylic paint over the entire design, to create the illusion of rust.
This studio is meant to help students to realistically draw animals and learn atmospheric perspective. The animals are based off of images found in magazines or books. The background is done first in watercolor and marker then the animal is painted with tempera paint.
Based on yarn paintings of the Huichol Indians of Western Mexico, this piece is made by placing colored yarn on sticky board.
Based on Gyotaku fish prints of Japan, this is created by rolling ink onto a fake fish (or real) and placing a thin paper over it.
Based on fabric molas of the Cuna Indianas, this Mola is created by layering construction paper and cutting out shapes.
Tempera paint on red construction paper with a wash of India Ink, which is eventually removed.
